Ability to select and style text across Rems granularly (without activating Rem selection)

Sometimes RemNote doesn’t allow us to select, edit and style text as we would in a normal text editor. This has been greatly improved with the latest update, which allows selecting multiple lines of text using SHIFT+UP/DOWN without activating full Rem selection. However we still can’t make partial text selections that span multiple Rems.

This user in reddit explains it well (he also included a video):

I understand allowing a granular selection like that might lead to some complicated scenarios (for example, what happens if you copy a partial multi-Rem selection and paste it elsewhere). However I think most cases should be straightforward, such as styling and even deleting…

Something like Alt+drag or such. I think just dragging should select the rem. Using another Key to activate granular selection/control is a good idea!

The reason I think the default should be granular selection is because it is closer to what most people are used to.

If the user starts the operation in a granular way, they will expect to be able to continue (and finalize it) in the same way.

For example, here I made the selection by clicking below, right after “1970”, and then dragged up.

I would expect to be able to continue dragging up until I start selecting text from the Rem on top.
But what happens is that both full Rem are selected.

This happens regardless of where I started my selection originally in the text.

Selecting a Rem is a very specific operation, that only makes sense in RemNote (as it doesn’t act on text, but on its structure). I’d prefer there to be different operations/shortcuts for that.

Of course, this is just my opinion… I understand yours. I’m just adding to my argument to explain it better. Maybe most people disagree

PS: For trackpad/mouse, CTRL+click could be a good idea (like in many other UIs).
It would also allow this:

As a workaround, you may either use shift+enter to not create bullets for new lines (or even enter if you turn it on in the options), style the text as you wish, then split it into rem. Alas, I see no way to keep drag selecting rem (necessary for outlining) and allow to select text across them.

The way I suggested is to have a shortcut/modifier.

Right, just making sure that the default is still selecting the rem themselves.
