Optimize the performance on PC

  1. open large document is slow
  2. delete many rems is slow

I see this as a longer term downstream issue.
Of course, searching and navigation is Blazing fast in RemNote, at least compared to fully cloud based applications (like Notion).
Slight changes can be done to improve speed for bigger movements (Complicated portals, long list of rem, documents with deep hierarchy.) like rewriting the animations to make them minimalistic (and hence fast), making indexes more efficient(?), Making RemNote fast on computers with low system-resources and hence making it McQueen Fast in modern computers.
I find it logical to bring the developers’ attention here:
O @Martin, O @Moritz
You have been summoned.

Do you mean the desktop app? It runs OK for me.
It’s a bit slower when dealing with big/numerous items, but still quite fast.

Is the desktop app slower than other apps you have?
(I know it’s hard to compare, since the data structures are different. But lets say you were to open the same volume of text. And then do a search for example)

compare to obsidian (which I use before), yes, remnote is much slower ( I migrate to remnote because RemNote is great ! and have many feature I want

Well, you have a valid discussion here.
RemNote, as I mentioned before is still BLAZING FAST.
Faster than a normally required. It becomesslow when you have complicated structures, like a few portals in one document, nested portals, etc.
It’s sort of a common thing in every app, that it’s slow when it comes to processing/viewing big chunks of data.
But speeding things up maybe a very great way to speed up workflows. Plus, it’s attractive.
(I personally am willing to give up a little bit of aesthetics for performance. :grimacing:)
I see that the way this can be made better is making the rendering process, and animations much “lighter”.

Well, I’m very happy that you’ve come over to RemNote.
And you can vote on your own post as well…

A post was split to a new topic: Documents not appearing in the Desktop app!

additional info: total rems: 35610

I decided to buy a new computer, hopefully remnote will run faster

after upgrade my computer from cpu i5 7200U to amd R7 4800H, remnote work more smoothly … but in some case, it’s still a bit slowly

My statistics page doesn’t even show anything yet.

So maybe I’m not experiencing slow performance just because my KB is (relatively) small

Are local knowledge-bases slow as well?

I’m having troubles with big docs also, big docs as 50 pages pdf transcribed to Rems…

remnote gradually become slower for me when my notes growing… so I comment here again…

@jackiexiao which part of RemNote do you find to be slow, as your notes grow in size? And what’s your current total rem count?

I have 53443 rems now

These part of RemNote is slow

  1. search is slow

I have to turn on Only Search Concepts, and toggle Alt + C only if necessary to avoid slow search, and I think search problem is primary issue

  1. open large document
  2. open / take notes on large pdf

I have been using PDF expert, Margin Note and Anki since quite a long time and currently I have 8-10 PDF files with 5k-7k pages each. I used to combine all the notes and books in PDF to have one single reference book for any given subject. At this point, I am trying to shift from Margin Note 3 to remnote. I am facing obvious issue with loading of these large pdf files in remnote. It is seamless transition in Margin Note 3 but Remnote takes too much time to open and navigate to specific page.

I have though of dismentaling all large pdf in chunks of 500 pages each and then connect it. But it will be tedious and cumbersome task of moving from Margin note 3 to Remnote.

I request your suggestions to move forward with Remnote from this point onwards (Where I have 8-10 pdf with 5k-7k pages).

Thanks.
