I think this is weird UX. After editing in the flashcard window, the card has just gone somewhere and a new card pops up.
How about going to the card just before editing after editing something else done?
You can edit in document preview mode (p by default), which will return to the card afterwards. I assume the reason regular edit behaves like it does is it shuffles the card back into the queue to be answered with corrections in the same session.
