You can directly put portals inside your document sidebar like this
and it will show up in your sidebar on the left like this
I use this one instead of pinned documents
Benefits
- If you put stuff inside search portals (e.g. for pinned documents) you can’t control the order in which they show up in your side bar. However, with this approach you can order the portals the way you want and it will reflect accordingly on the left side bar
- With the search portals, if you pin a parent document and its child, you will see only the parent on the sidebar and you have to keep expanding the parent to find out the child you pinned.
