I have read that RemNote’s core features will be free forever, but who is financing RemNote now? When do you plan to charge for RemNote? (Juts makes me uncomfortable not to know the master plan, after all; ‘if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product’.
As we see it, there are a few core issues here:
- How do we ensure long-term sustainability and access?
- How do we fund continued, long-term development?
- How do we set up our financial incentives to ensure that we stay focused on our core mission?
The current setup:
- We’re currently bootstrapping the business, and plan to continue to do so. Per the 3rd point above, we want to ensure that we stay focused on our core mission. Aligning our incentives financially with our core users is a powerful mechanism for this, and one that makes sense for RemNote at this time.
The plan going forward:
- We’ll be adding a paid subscription track with premium features. This will happen in the near future (likely within the next month or so).
- We’ll continue to support a feature-rich free plan, to promote our goal of enabling equitable access to a core RemNote experience (which we see as extremely powerful).
- You’ll never have to pay for any feature you currently use. We’ll be moving some existing features behind the paid subscription, but current users will have grandfathered free access and use to all features in their current state.
We have some additional thoughts here on our FAQ page.
for current users, will there be a limit on storage or number of rems etc, when paid subscription is added?
Thanks for clarifying, Martin. Been using Remnote for quite a while now and absolutely love it to bits.
Hope you can answer a question if you’ve the time. As a long time user, I do qualify for the grandfathered free access, but am really pumped to see what the future updates bring.
For long-time users such as me, would you consider a lifetime premium subscription? I’m happy to pay a lump sum to access the future updates as I really love the product. Cheers!
I also prefer to pay lifetime.
Thanks Aly! We’re definitely considering this as an option. I’m not sure if this would take the form of a lifetime subscription, a ten year plan, or some other alternative, but we are considering it.
I would like to take a doubt. If the features that are free will continue like this, that means that there is not going to be a limit of REMS or storage space in the free subscription, right? On the other hand, I also want to adhere to the modality of a single payment.
