What is this magnifying glass reference for?

What is the rem with the magnifying glass for and what does it mean? Is this just signifying that it is searching for a reference and I need to select one? It doesn’t seem to be an active reference.

RemReference1 was made by selecting the word and selecting “Make Rem Reference” in the editor menu. (To make it an active reference and remove the magnifying glass, I can click on the word again and select “Create Rem.” Why didn’t the “Make Rem Reference” button create an active reference in the first click?).

RemReference2 was made by selecting the word and typing [ and selecting “Create Rem”, or by typing [[RemReference2.

Thanks! @mattygrov Hopefully two future fixes:

  1. The “Make Rem Reference” button is short circuiting the process because it isn’t allowing a selection for a current rem or for “Create Rem.” I have to click on the word again to select either of those options. Looks like it has worked in past updates to bring up the options correctly.
  2. Allow Esc key, or clicking elsewhere, during the reference process to remove the magnifying glass, and allow a way to remove the reference without deleting the word

You guess is correct. The magnifying glass means " it is searching for a reference and need to select one". So you see RemReference1 mainly because you didn’t complete the whole process of creating a reference. As a result the rem got stuck in searching mode.

Especially since the last few updates, this magnifying glass has become more sticky. Earlier we could just hit Esc key and get out of it, but now it seems like we have to either go all the way and create a reference (then it would look like RemReference2) or delete the typed text (RemReference1). Not that intuitive, I agree. I think once the user clicks somewhere else, this magnifying glass should disappear.
