Where are PDF's stored?

I’m a new Remnote user on the Pro trial. I love the app in every way. However, I’m concerned about data security/logevity.

  1. Do synced knowledge bases maintain a local copy on the Desktop app, or is everything “streamed” from the cloud?

  2. When I upload a PDF as a source document to Remnote, does it get uploaded to their servers only? Is there a local copy saved at all?

  3. Do daily backups also maintain PDF’s and highlights?

Sorry for all the questions! I’m just concerned about the off-chance that Remnote’s servers get completely nuked. Of course, I can create a local knowledge base, but I obviously value the syncing feature. Just want to know if there is an option to maintain a local copy and sync. Thank you!

Nevermind—I just found the location where files and backups are stored. This easily puts Remnote miles ahead of Roam. Worth every penny (when the trial runs out, of course)!

  1. Everything is stored locally - you can disconnect for as long as you want and everything will sync when you reconnect.
  2. The PDF is also stored locally.
  3. The daily backups currently only contain the highlights (along with your Rem, cards, etc.). We might add files to them in the future, but we want to be careful to not take up an ever growing amount of space on your hard-drive with duplicated files.

Got it, thanks! As for the last question, it would be nice to have the option to do that periodically. Also, after going through the media folder, I found a lot of deleted/unused media. Is there any way to clean that up periodically as well? It could add up after a bit, and it’s difficult to figure out which files are actively being used and which ones are not.

Yep, we’ll add an easier way to manage this in the future.

I cannot find where the pdf’s are locally stored.
Was it supposed to be here in this folder? C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\RemNote\IndexedDB\

@Thais_Soares for synced knowledge bases image/pdf files are cached in
C:\Users\USER\remnote\files for offline access. They are primarily stored in the cloud to enable syncing.

For local KBs they are stored in the folder you specified when creating the KB. You can find it by going to Settings > Knowledge Bases > YOUR_LOCAL_KB … menu
